HOCHTIEF carried out several construction activities at the Walsum coal-fired power plant in Duisburg. We built the shell of the new Block Ten, for example, as well as the 180-meter-high natural draft cooling tower by means of a special climbing formwork. All eight revolving tower cranes we used were placed at our disposal by our subsidiary TRINAC. Thanks to the optimized cooling tower, more electricity can be generated from the same amount of coal.
Reinforced concrete cooling towers present an engineering challenge—from statics, surveying, and concrete technology through to execution. HOCHTIEF’s experts have in-depth knowledge of this field.
