Australian HOCHTIEF subsidiary CIMIC completed the Macarthur Wind Farm at the beginning of 2013, after a good two years of construction. The largest wind farm in the southern hemisphere, Macarthur generates up to 420 megawatthours of electricity—enough to power 220,000 of the region’s homes each year. In this project, Leighton Contractors was Principle Contractor, in addition to its responsibility for the logistics and construction of the wind farm facility, the construction of substations as well as the overhead transmission lines and underground cable collector systems measuring 35 kilometers in all.
