Ajax Stadium in Amsterdam

Ajax Stadium in Amsterdam, 1934

Football was continually growing in popularity in the early 20th century and this went along with increasing numbers of spectators. Ajax Amsterdam needed more space: the De Meer stadium was built as a replacement for the old wooden stadium. In December 1934, the football team opened the venue built by HOCHTIEF with a 5:1 victory over Stade Français.
