Lillgrund Wind Farm in Sweden

Lillgrund Wind Farm in Sweden, 2006-2008

The Lillgrund wind farm, one of the largest in Europe, was constructed seven kilometers off the coast of Malmö. HOCHTIEF built the foundations for the 48 large wind turbines as well as a transformer station. One of the project's biggest technological challenges involved the precise laying of the gravitation foundations. The wind park has an output of 330 gigawatt-hours—enough to supply electricity to around 60,000 Swedish households. Compared to conventional energy sources, the project cuts CO2 emissions by 300,000 tons per year.
