Samuel de Champlain Bridge, Montreal, Canada
74,000 tons of steel, 93,000 cubic meters of concrete and 25,000 tons of asphalt were used for one of North America’s most important transportation infrastructure projects. After less than four years construction time, in 2019 a HOCHTIEF consortium has completed a 3.4-kilometer-long bridge over the Saint Lawrence River in Montreal: the Samuel de Champlain Bridge. The bridge is an important link between Canada and the USA. The new construction takes the pressure off the Champlain Bridge, which was built in 1962. Up to 60 million vehicles cross the Saint Lawrence River every year.
