SAAOne, Amsterdam, Netherlands
Road construction cannot do without sand, but it can do without truck traffic: During the construction of the most important approach roads to Amsterdam in the Netherlands, the required four million cubic meters of sand were brought to the site through hydraulic flushing instead of by truck. This meant there were 225,000 fewer truck journeys. A good 20-kilometers-long section with bridges, tunnels and waterways was made fit for the constantly growing traffic between Amsterdam, Schiphol Airport and the strongly growing city of Almere.
