Climate-friendly: We made 20 kilometers of highway with bridges, tunnels and waterways fit for the constantly growing traffic between Amsterdam, Schiphol Airport and the city of Almere. Thanks to a logistics idea, we were able to save 225,000 truck trips and thus 10,000 tons of CO₂ during construction. We flushed the four million cubic meters of sand required on site from the Ijsselmeer through a 3.5-kilometer pipeline. The construction phase took just under five years, three years less than planned, so the 25-year operation and maintenance phase is now in full swing since 2017.
