Groundbreaking ceremony in Duderstadt / Goal: seamless fast-charging network
Oldenburg/Essen/Duderstadt, August 6, 2024. Works on the “Deutschlandnetz” (Germany Network) are progressing at a good pace. Today, construction works started for the first fast-charging park of the partners EWE Go and HOCHTIEF. In the coming weeks, more and more locations are planned to follow, allowing the Federal government's Germany Network project to significantly pick up speed. The two companies thus ensure that Germany’s fast-charging network is rapidly becoming denser, and are decisively advancing the drive transition in transportation.
The starting signal was given today, August 6, 2024, in Duderstadt. The charging park planned there is the first one to go from the planning phase into the construction phase now. The symbolic first sod was turned by Duderstadt’s mayor Thorsten Feike together with Kevin Tortora and Simon Stein, Managing Directors of EWE Go HOCHTIEF Ladepartner GmbH &Co. KG, the joint venture set up by EWE Go, a subsidiary of Oldenburg-based energy supplier EWE, and Essen-headquartered infrastructure group HOCHTIEF to deliver the Germany Network.
More charging parks to follow shortly
In Duderstadt, four charging stations with a total of eight charging points will be created; thus up to eight cars can be charged there simultaneously in future. Every charging point has a capacity of at least 200 kilowatts. The charging park in Duderstadt is expected to be operational in the course of the first quarter of 2024. Construction works will also start at other locations shortly so that ever more charging parks can go online at the beginning of next year already.

Fast charging with 100% green electricity
All Germany Network charging parks of EWE Go and HOCHTIEF are built barrier-free and are supplied with 100% green electricity. Depending on their size, they have four to 16 fast-charging points each. Every charging point has a capacity of at least 200 kilowatts. This means that—according to vehicle type and battery status—the battery can be fully charged in around 20 to 30 minutes.
The locations are in larger and smaller cities as well as in rural areas. Depending on the size and exact location, there are various additional offers. Bigger charging parks are generally roofed, and have snack machines, sanitary facilities and free WLAN.
The Germany Network
At the end of 2023, HOCHTIEF and EWE Go received a contract from the Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport to finance, plan, build and operate a fast-charging network for electric cars with a total of 850 charging points in the North-West and West regions. The areas are in North Rhine-Westphalia, Lower Saxony, Bremen and Hamburg as well as in parts of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Schleswig-Holstein. Within the framework of the Germany Network, the Federal Ministry of Transport had invited bids for a total almost 9,000 fast-charging points at approximately 1,000 locations. The Germany Network’s goal is to build a nationwide, needs-based and user-friendly fast charging network throughout Germany.
