Project at TH Rosenheim prioritizes sustainability

HOCHTIEF is expanding Rosenheim Technical University as part of Bavaria's high-tech agenda. The Free State of Bavaria, represented by the Rosenheim State Building Authority, commissioned HOCHTIEF - together with Rubner Holzbau – to build a technology park with laboratory and machinery facilities as well as a student center with digital learning hub and student services. The project, with a total volume of almost EUR 190 million, also includes extensive planning services including design and will be executed as an all-timber based construction. HOCHTIEF's share of the total contract volume amounts to around EUR 140 million. Construction work will begin this year.

With its wide range of courses in the four disciplines of engineering, business, design and health, Rosenheim Technical University of Applied Sciences is a major driving force for the development and promotion of young talent in the entire region of south-eastern Upper Bavaria. Today, it is one of Europe's most important educational institutions in the wood industry. The new university buildings are designed for around 1,800 students. The Free State of Bavaria is focusing on sustainability in the planning and realization of the buildings. The aim is to achieve certification in accordance with the "Gold Standard" Sustainable Building Rating System (BNB). The climate targets of the Free State of Bavaria are also to be taken into account. The topics of efficiency in building operations, energy efficiency, flexibility and accessibility are also key objectives of the project and will be incorporated by the joint venture during planning and execution.

HOCHTIEF and its US company Turner have realized numerous projects in the field of university construction, for example in Bochum/Germany, Berkeley/USA and Harvard/USA. HOCHTIEF is currently building the new university campus for police and public administration (HSPV) in Herne, Germany. Turner has already completed a number of timber buildings, including a five-story office building made of solid wood in Nashville, Tennessee. This is HOCHTIEF's first all-timber construction project in Germany.
