The federal state of Berlin has contracted HOCHTIEF LLBB GmbH, a fully-owned subsidiary of HOCHTIEF PPP Solutions GmbH, to build and operate a new laboratory and administration building for the Berlin-Brandenburg State Laboratory (LLBB). The project’s total investment costs amount to EUR 83 million, with construction costs of EUR 72 million. Construction is due to start in fall 2016 and should be completed in early 2019.

HOCHTIEF Building GmbH will construct the new State Laboratory whose four floors will house modern labs of different security levels. To this end the project company, HOCHTIEF LLBB GmbH, has signed a 30-year lease with the federal state of Berlin, and will also operate the building. The operation services include technical facility management, maintenance, inspection, servicing and upkeep on the basis of a lifecycle approach, as well as commercial facility management and other services including cleaning, security and operation of the staff restaurant.

Once completed, the new building with a gross floor area of a good 22,800 square meters and designed by Kister Scheithauer Gross Architekten from Cologne/Leipzig, will be available to the tenant, the federal State of Berlin. Apart from the labs, the new premises will feature offices, a library, social and technical areas, and space for parking. The building will be located at the Wissenschaftspark Adlershof (WISTA) in the southeastern Treptow-Köpenick district of Berlin. As the home to over 1,000 companies and scientific facilities, including the science campus of the Humboldt University Berlin, WISTA is Germany’s biggest science park.
