Topping-out ceremony for shopping center MERCADEN® Böblingen

Joint venture headed by HOCHTIEF Solutions completed shell construction works for the shopping center

HOCHTIEF Solutions‘ Building Frankfurt branch has completed the shell construction works for the new shopping center MERCADEN® Böblingen in the city center of Böblingen. The project will be turnkey completed in a joint venture with Oevermann Hochbau by the end of 2014 and celebrates its topping-out ceremony today. HOCHTIEF Solutions is technical leader of the joint venture. The contract volume amounts to more than EUR 60 million, of which the HOCHTIEF the HOCHTIEF share is 80 percent. The client is the project company PBC Project GP, a joint venture of Pramerica Real Estate Investors London and hkm Management.

On a gross floor area of 78,000 square meters, 24,400 square meters of retail space will be created on three levels as well as 800 parking lots in a garage. After completion, MERCADEN® Böblingen will offer a mix of 100 retail units, eateries and services.

"Since the foundation stone was laid in May this year, we have placed 40,000 cubic meters of concrete and 6,000 tons of steel," HOCHTIEF project manager Manfred Wendig reports. Despite the short construction period and the demanding inner-city construction site logistics, the project is fully within schedule, Wendig says.

The construction site logistics present a special challenge for the joint venture between HOCHTIEF and Oevermann. Because of the closely adjoining buildings, hardly any installation and storage areas are available so that materials have to be delivered on a just-in-time basis.

To keep the ambitious schedule, some 400 people will work on the construction site in peak periods. A large part of the fit-out works will be awarded to regional companies as far as possible.
