HOCHTIEF Building has finalized shell construction works for the extension of the head office of Nordex in Hamburg-Ochsenzoll. The project will be realized by spring 2018 on a turnkey basis and celebrates its topping-out ceremony today.
The new four-story office building, complete with a company restaurant and an underground car park on the first basement level, is being constructed at the company's head office, the Nordex Forum. The latter was also planned and built on a turnkey basis by the Building Hamburg branch in 2010 for the wind turbine producer.
"Due to the client's positive experience with HOCHTIEF, we were also awarded the contract for extending the Nordex Forum, after an initial six-month preconstruction phase," says Branch Manager Martin Kalkmann. The purpose of the preconstruction phase was to optimize costs, quality and deadlines for the client. In this way, it was possible, for example, to significantly increase the building's sustainability by electrical systems adapted to the user's specific needs.
The new building, Nordex Forum 2, with a gross floor area of around 12,000 square meters is modeled on its predecessor's architecture: Its facade also features characteristic, ornament-like expanded metal elements. After completion, it will provide space for up to 600 employees.
Nordex has grown sharply over the last few years. This has made it necessary in the meantime to relocate individual departments as "Nordex Forum 1" no longer offers sufficient space. Following the completion of the new building, all employees will be based again in the enlarged "Forum", where they will be able to work efficiently. The building complex will have a total floor space of 26,000 square meters and enough space for up to 1,300 employees.
The Hamburg metropolitan region is the European wind power capital, having attracted many customers over the years. This also includes the Nordex Group, which moved its head office to the region after going public in 2001 in order to benefit from the attractive local conditions.
