Proven Team Awarded 19th Project Together
The Turner Construction Company/AC Martin team (Turner+AC Martin) was awarded a design-build contract for the $79.8 million Health and Human Services Center, by the Placer County Board of Supervisors. This project adds to a 50-year history of award-winning projects completed together by the two firms.
The new Health and Human Services facility is included in the county’s recently updated master plan for Placer County Government Center, and will help consolidate existing staff and services from six divisions into a 142,000-square-foot facility in North Auburn.
The “one-stop” service center for the Auburn and foothills area will improve public access to health and human services and supplant the multiple World War II-era facilities currently in use. It would also be the county’s first zero net-energy facility, generating as much electricity as it consumes over the course of a year through the use of carport-mounted photovoltaic panels.
“This project presents the opportunity to impact the residents of Placer County in a profound way,” said Gail Bouvrie, Designer. “The goal was to design a facility that is welcoming, warm, inclusive and honors the people who dedicate their lives to helping those who might be struggling. The building respects the existing campus context with a forward-looking aesthetic. A variety of outdoor gathering spaces are strategically located to allow the public and employees opportunities to meet or just relax in the open air.”
The $79.8 million building is expected to break ground in early 2022 and will be open to the public in fall 2023.
Turner and AC Martin have a 50-year history of working together in California, including design-build projects such as: California Department of General Services New Natural Resources Headquarters; Caltrans District 3 Headquarters; Cal EPA Headquarters; University of California Davis Medical Center North Addition Office Building; California State University Stanislaus Union Renovation & Addition; and Wilshire Grand Center in Los Angeles.
“Our journey through the proposal competition with Placer County represents everything design-build is meant to be,” said Drake Costa, Business Development Manager. “Turner+AC Martin studied the details and functions of the Health and Human Services departments, and was able to translate those into design solutions that will serve the County for years to come. The collaborative partnership provides immediate benefits as we launch the project as one team, including all County representatives.”
