Nuremberg—Feature
What is special about Nuremberg is the building ground: The earth is mainly made of yellow sandstone. As long as it is tightly pressed in the ground, it is solid like stone. However, from the moment tunnel milling grind it and it comes into contact with water, it quickly turns into mud. "To cope with this is a particular challenge in tunnel construction," emphasizes Adrian Diaconu, branch manager of HOCHTIEF Infrastructure's southeast region. HOCHTIEF therefore uses a special machine technology with which the milled material can be removed as quickly as possible. A system that has proven its worth in the "Nuremberg Geology" for decades.
