The company will redevelop and maintain a public administration office and training complex in a sustainable manner over 30 years
HOCHTIEF has been awarded a large contract for a building-construction PPP project in Berlin. The Group will refurbish and build new offices for the Institute for Federal Real Estate (BImA) and subsequently operate and maintain them over a total 30-year period. Building work is scheduled to start in October and last around five years. In addition to price, sustainability was an important award criterion. The client attaches particular importance to resource-saving concepts in construction and operation.
HOCHTIEF CEO Juan Santamaría: "Our strategy is to help our clients to make their buildings more sustainable. Because the contract covers the refurbishment and operation of the properties, we can optimize the buildings over their entire life cycle. As a result, we can reduce the carbon footprint as well as the operating costs of tenants."
Around 2,400 jobs will be created in the Treptow-Köpenick district of Berlin. The buildings have a gross floor area of approximately 87,000 square meters. The overall project comprises the core refurbishment of four existing properties, which will be linked with new buildings and extensions. In addition to offices, HOCHTIEF will build training and conference areas, technical operations rooms and a canteen. Charging stations for electric vehicles and e-bikes will be built on the site and all roofs will be equipped with photovoltaic systems to generate electricity.
HOCHTIEF will maintain the property for 25 years after completion. Operations will include technical and commercial building management as well as maintenance and cleaning services.
"Only a few weeks after having being awarded the contract for construction and operation of the state laboratories in Kassel with a three-digit million volume, we are now pleased to have won another major contract which we will implement together with the project team of HOCHTIEF Building’s Berlin and Erfurt branches," says Sandra Arendt, responsible for the public building construction segment of HOCHTIEF PPP Solutions GmbH.
